Monkey Island Hotel, originally a Fishing Lodge built in the mid 18th Century by Charles Spencer, Duke of Marlborough. The island's name supposedly comes from paintings of monkeys enjoying river sports in the domed ceiling of the fishing lodge, but more than likely originates from ‘monk’s eyot’ meaning 'Monk's Island'.
